April 16, 2010 Teaching Kids about Financial Literacy Press Release

Sayreville, NJ – April 16, 2010 Raritan Bay Federal Credit Union, along with Money Management, will raise financial awareness at Cardinal McCarrick High school on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 and South Amboy Middle/High School on Friday, April 23, 2010. Raritan Bay FCU and Money Management will make a presentation to students, including games and an open discussion, on the importance of financial literacy.

Raritan Bay FCU will also speak to the students about the benefits of Credit Union membership. Students will be advised to take advantage of the Lighthouse (located in South Amboy Middle/High School) and the Eagle’s Nest (located in Cardinal McCarrick High School). The Lighthouse and the Eagle’s Nest are student-run offices of the Credit Union, which operate within the high schools, two days a week.

National Credit Union Youth Week is April 18-24, 2010. Struggling for economic prosperity is difficult for everyone. It’s especially hard for young people who’ve never learned how to plan to achieve financial security. What we need today, confirmed by poor financial literacy test scores from across the country, is leadership to help raise the awareness of financial issues for young people. The staff and members of Raritan Bay FCU are ideally positioned to respond because they believe in the power of education–put to practical use–to improve the lives of our neighbors and our community. Their tradition of service and philosophy of self-help make Raritan Bay FCU and all credit unions a natural source of leadership in the fight against financial ignorance.

Join Raritan Bay FCU on April 22 this year as they celebrate National Credit Union Youth Week. A lobby day will be held at their main office at 491 Raritan Street in Sayreville. This year’s theme is “Get in the Savings Game.” There will be raffle prizes, free giveaways, popcorn and more for children of all ages.

As leaders in financial education, Raritan Bay FCU, along with the Lighthouse, the Eagle’s Nest and Money Management, is helping youth become prosperous, savvy adults.

Raritan Bay Federal Credit Union is a non-profit, community chartered financial institution that serves everyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Middlesex County. Raritan Bay Federal Credit Union was chartered in 1941, and is owned and operated by its members.
